VacPort Troubleshooting and Repair Guide

If your VacPort isn’t responding or won’t activate your central vacuum, this VacPort troubleshooting and repair guide will help you identify the issue quickly and get your system working again.

1. VacPort Troubleshooting Step 1: Remove the VacPort from the Wall

Open the VacPort door to access the two screws holding it in place.
Remove these screws, then gently pull the VacPort straight out from the wall. Keep the screws in a safe place for reinstallation.

2. VacPort Troubleshooting Step 2: Inspect the Steel Rod and Magnets

When the VacPort door opens, a steel rod should make contact with the internal magnets.

If the steel rod does not make contact with the magnets:

  • Check for debris that may prevent the door from closing completely.
  • Clean the area thoroughly, then test the VacPort. If it operates normally, reinstall it.

If cleaning does not resolve the issue:

  • Remove the two screws securing the VacPort circuit board.
  • Inspect and carefully clean the contact points on the circuit board where the steel rod connects.
  • Clean the steel rod itself, reassemble the VacPort, and test its operation again.

3. VacPort Troubleshooting Step 3: Test the Wiring to the Vacuum

Disconnect the two yellow wires from the VacPort that lead back to the vacuum system. These are typically low-voltage wires, safe to handle, and may consist of a 22-gauge black and red pair enclosed in white or gray insulation.

Touch the two disconnected wires together.

If the vacuum turns on:
The problem is within the VacPort’s circuit board, connection points, or debris inside the unit. Contact InterVac Design for further assistance.

If the vacuum does not turn on:
Continue to the next step.

4. VacPort Troubleshooting Step 4: Inspect the Wiring to the Vacuum Cleaner

Trace the wires back to the main vacuum unit and inspect them carefully for damage or loose connections.

If the wires are damaged or disconnected:
Repair or reconnect the wires, then test the VacPort after completing the repair.

If the wires appear intact and connected:
Proceed to the next step.
